Maintenance: How to keep your hair looking great.

Maintaining your hair between barber visits is essential to keeping the great haircut we give you looking good. Here is a list of tips we have for keeping your hair at it’s best: 1. Regular Washing and Conditioning * Use Quality Products: Invest in a good shampoo and conditioner suited to your hair type. Look for products that nourish and hydrate your hair without stripping away natural oils, for example evo’s ‘normal persons’ shampoo and conditioner. For the love of your hair, don’t use supermarket shampoos with silicone. * Condition!: Conditioner puts the goods back that shampoo strips out, so don’t fall into the trap of just shampooing. Shampoo is designed to strip your hair of the grease and grime that life throws at you, but it also strips your natural oils, no matter how gentle the product. * Wash Frequency: Avoid washing your hair daily. Instead, aim for 2-3 times a week to prevent over-stripping your hair. If your hair tends to get oily quickly, consider a gentler shampoo, and maybe not a supermarket-bought one. 2. Proper Drying Techniques * Pat Dry with a Towel: Avoid rubbing your hair vigorously with a towel as this can cause breakage and frizz. Instead, gently pat your hair dry. * Air Dry or Use a Blow Dryer Correctly: Let your hair air dry when possible. If you use a blow dryer, keep it on a low heat setting and maintain a safe distance from your hair to prevent damage. * Use a heat protectant or ‘pre styler’: Don’t get too locked into to just using a paste or wax. Not only does a pre styler protect from heat, but you’ll use far less of your main product to get the style you want, not to mention how much easier it will be. 3. Regular Brushing and Combing * Choose the Right Tools: Use a wide-tooth comb or a brush with natural bristles to detangle your hair. This helps distribute natural oils and keeps your hair smooth. NEVER brush your hair with anything but a wide tooth comb when it’s wet. * Brush in Sections: If you have longer hair, start from the ends and work your way up to prevent pulling and breakage. No one likes losing hair. 4. Split Ends * Trims: If you’re growing your hair and notice split ends, it’s time for a trim. This helps prevent further damage and keeps your hair looking neat. Booking a haircut doesn’t always mean you need to take noticeable length off. * Leave Major Cuts to Professionals: For significant trims or style changes, always visit your barber to ensure a professional finish. 5. Use Styling Products Wisely * Avoid Overuse: Back on styling, styling products like gels, pomades, and hairsprays can enhance your look, but using too much can weigh your hair down and cause buildup. * Opt for Lightweight Options: Choose lightweight, water-based products that are easy to wash out and won't clog your hair follicles. 6. Protect Your Hair from Environmental Damage * Rinse After Swimming: If you swim in chlorinated water, rinse your hair immediately afterward to remove harmful chemicals. 7. Avoid Heat Styling Tools * Limit Use: Minimise the use of heat on your hair. If you must use them, apply a heat protectant spray beforehand. * Use Low Heat Settings: Always use the lowest heat setting that achieves your desired style to reduce the risk of heat damage. 8. Sleep on a Silk Pillowcase * Reduce Friction: Silk pillowcases cause less friction than cotton ones, helping to prevent hair breakage and frizz. They also help maintain your hairstyle for longer, and feel way better. 9. Visit Your Barber Regularly * Set a Schedule: Regular visits to us, typically every 2-6 weeks, ensure your hair stays in shape and you look good.
